The scarfs
In 1466 King Louis XI decided to develop a national silk in Lyon. Under Francis I in 1540 the king granted a monopoly on silk production in the city of Lyon. In the mid-17th century more than 14,000 looms were used in Lyon. Nowadays the famous square silk scarves are made in Lyon
